Tennessee Tech Plans A "Celebration of Craft"

SMITHVILLE, Tenn. -- Join a regional tradition and attend the 10th annual Celebration of Craft from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 5, at Tennessee Tech University's Appalachian Center for Craft near Smithville.

The annual day-long event invites visitors to experience the narrated demonstrations in the Craft Center's studios, including glass blowing, woodworking, weaving, blacksmithing, ceramics and metal-smithing.

Enjoy musical performances by The Cluster Pluckers and Live Music in America. Bring the kids for participation in hands-on craft activities, including hand-building with clay, photograms, paper marbling, hand-made kites and more.

Take advantage of a 10 percent discount while shopping in The Gallery. Find great new works by members of TTU's student art organization, the Visual Arts Society, in their spring fine craft sale.

Participate in the silent auction of art and fine craft in support of the Craft Center's educational outreach programs. The silent auction items were generously donated by Craft Center-affiliated artists and other regional artists. Admission to the event is free.

"All proceeds from the Celebration of Craft directly support the Craft Center's educational outreach programs,” said Gail Gentry, workshop and event coordinator at the Craft Center. “These programs serve more than 4,000 school children in the Upper Cumberland Region each year.”
